Top India Partner Learns Importance of Internships in New York City

(New York City, NY) October 21, 2022 – On October 21, 2022, Marc Nelson, the Marketing Director for the Manhattan Institute of Management, held a webinar for TASA Asia, its top India partner.

The webinar was titled, “Global Careers in Management: the USA Perspective.” During his presentation, Mr. Nelson stressed the importance of having internships in New York City, the business capital of the world. Some of these benefits include: strengthening the resume/CV, learning weaknesses, gaining valuable mentorship from your supervisor, and networking opportunities which can have a profound and lasting impact on the candidate’s future career.

More than 30 participated in the presentation from the TASA Asia side, including their top management team. This is an organization based in Mumbai, India which sends students for MIM’s Diploma in International Business Administration Program, which includes nine months of class taught by MIM’s world-class faculty and then 9 months of a paid internship at a New York City company after the program concludes. TASA Asia expressed much interest in technical internships such as data analytics and software engineering, two burgeoning fields in India and across the world.

September 2022 Start Date Boasts More than 50 New Students!

The Covid-19 pandemic has been tough on many businesses and the Manhattan Institute of Management (MIM) is no different. For an international business school, heightened travel and visa restrictions made running operations during 2020 and 2021 practically impossible. But the school survived thanks to the tireless dedication of MIM’s Director, Mariya Proys s and Marketing Associate, Roger Sunyer Ané . They kept the school afloat during these turbulent times.

However, for its Fall 2022 orientation, held on September 26, 2022, MIM is back to its thriving ways with more than 50 new students from all over the globe! This was largely thanks to our French partners such as Pôle Léonard de Vinci , Institut Supérieur du Droit , GROUPE ESPI , and EKLYA School of Business sending students to the school. Agents from the Philippines, India, France and Japan also attributed to MIM’s recruitment success. Overall, the new cohort has students from 12 countries and 4 different continents.

The date of September 26, 2022 was also exciting for MIM because it welcomed its new Internship Director, Mary Rezakalla. She is enthused to make new contributions to the school and she already made her presence felt during orientation week by preparing students for their future internship experiences at New York City companies.
The only bittersweet aspect of the week was that MIM also held its Summer 2022 graduation lunch on Friday, September 30, 2023. MIM values each student as part of its international family. MIM followed its usual routine of having a memorable graduation ceremony and graduation lunch for the departing cohort.
We bid adieu to our Summer 2022 class and look forward to providing a terrific academic, professional, and cultural experience to our incoming September 2022 students!

After a few years removed because of the Covid-19 pandemic, MIM’s Business Development Manager, Roger Sunyer Ané, attended the NAFSA Conference in Denver, Colorado from May 30, 2022 - June 2, 2022.

The exhibition was extremely productive. In fact, Roger got to meet prospective partners from across the globe in addition to those from his native country of Spain. He also met MIM’s newest partners, and older ones, in addition to attending Professional Development sessions. Over 4,000 individuals from more than 60 countries attended this year’s NAFSA Conference.

Roger stated, “The conference was exhausting and overwhelming, but it will be worth it for MIM’s overall benefit, in the end.”

(New York City, NY) March 22, 2022 – The Manhattan Institute of Management (MIM) has furthered its globalization strategy as the school is close to establishing agreements with Blue Hill College of Ecuador and Institut Superieur du Droit (ISD) .

These are one-way study abroad agreements in which both institutions will send students to MIM in New York City. The schools are quite different as ISD is a law school while Blue Hill College focuses more on liberal arts, but MIM is all about diversity and welcoming students from varying disciplines, backgrounds, and cultures.

MIM’s Marketing Director, Marc Nelson, was pleased with these developments. As he stated, “The Covid-19 pandemic was tough, but with these new partners, we can continue to add to both the enrollments and globalization of our school. France has historically been our strongest market from an enrollment standpoint, but Ecuador is a virtually untapped market for us.”

(New York City, NY) October 22, 2021 – The Manhattan Institute of Management (MIM) has a specialty of providing a terrific academic, professional, and cultural experience to its international students.

MIM certainly lived up to its reputation from a cultural aspect when it took a group trip to a New Jersey Devils game on New Jersey on the evening of October 21, 2021. The 10 MIM students that attended the game had a great time! It particularly amazed them to see the MIM group name pop up on the Jumbotron during intermission. For most of the students, it was their first time attending a professional sporting event in the USA.

The students also learned that in addition to the amazing sights in New York City, there are also popular destinations in Northern New Jersey that are close to MIM. A good example is the Prudential Center, which is a 20-minute train ride away from downtown Manhattan.

Rather than just allowing its students to enjoy cultural aspects on their own, MIM takes the lead in arranging these group trips, thanks to the efforts of MIM’s Chief Compliance Officer, Mariya Proyss, and Marketing Assistant, Roger Sunyer Ane.

Even though the Devils lost the game 4-1 to the Washington Capitals, it was an evening that will not soon be forgotten by MIM’s students.

(New York City, NY) December 8, 2021 – The Manhattan Institute of Management (MIM) held its biannual graduation lunch.

This cohort of students overcame significant obstacles to reach this point. Amid a global pandemic, many of these students experienced time-consuming visa delays. Some of them also had to go through mandatory 2 week quarantines after arriving in the US. Then, they had to learn a new city in a new foreign country all while trying to improve their English skills on the fly.

After that, they had to handle the challenging MIM course load which in itself is no easy feat. As if that wasn’t enough, after successfully completing the courses, many of these students have even opted to pursue MIM’s Internship Program, so that they can gain firsthand experience at a New York City company to strengthen their resumes for their future careers.

A well-deserved graduation lunch was held at Felice on December 8 ^th for these courageous, dedicated students that can have one final time to bond with their classmates and say farewell to MIM.

The Fall 2021 cohort of MIM students showed that nothing can stop them in achieving their goals, which bodes well for them in their future academic and professional endeavors.

Amid Pandemic, MIM Welcomes New Students for Onsite Learning in NYC in April 2021!

The Coronavirus Pandemic has certainly taken its toll on many businesses in a wide variety of fields. MIM is no different, as it is an international business existing in a climate when many embassies around the world were shut down.

However, the school's staff worked diligently throughout the pandemic to make an April 2021 start date a reality. More specifically, MIM's Chief Compliance Officer, Mariya Proyss, did an admirable job of leading MIM's operational and administrative efforts during the difficult times. In fact, she issued DS-2019 forms to each student and kept in touch with each one throughout the visa process.

The April 2021 cohort included 10 new students from countries as diverse as France, Japan, Germany, and India.

Sure, things may look a bit different with students wearing masks and having to social distance, but students can still expect to have a wonderful academic, cultural, and professional experience at MIM!

MIM Adds Former Student, Roger Sunyer Ane, as Marketing Assistant

Roger Sunyer Ane has truly experienced all aspects of MIM during his five years of association with the school. In 2016, he started as a student for MIM's 3-Month Business Administration Program (BAP) via a partnership with his school, Universidad Autonoma de Barcelona (UAB) of Spain.

After then receiving his Certificate of Completion and going on to finish his studies in Spain, Roger missed the excitement of New York City and MIM and decided to return for the Diploma in International Business Administration (DIBA) Program in 2019. He knew that completing this program would then lead to him becoming eligible to receive the Masters in International Business (MIB) from EAE Business School, one of the top Spanish Business Schools.

In addition to receiving this enhanced credential, Roger sought to have a longer internship experience than his 3 month program provides in 2016. Luckily, the DIBA Program also included a 9-month internship at a New York City company.

In Roger's case, there was no better place for him to intern than at MIM, a school that he already enjoyed twice as a student. As Roger stated, "It was a no-brainer to do my internship at MIM. The school has always treated me well and allowed me to expand my horizons in New York City. Even during the pandemic, MIM has provided me with the opportunity to learn so much more about international education."

MIM's Marketing Director, Marc Nelson, also had enthusiastic remarks about Roger when he said, "It is at the point where we don't even use the term 'intern' to refer to Roger, because he does so much more than that. We call him Marketing Assistant, because he has been instrumental in certain areas such as expanding our partnership efforts in Spanish-speaking countries, such as Panama."

Roger looks forward to experiencing more professional growth at the Manhattan Institute of Management (MIM) in New York City.

As the spread of the Coronavirus affects the entire world and its potential effect is on everyone’s mind, the health and safety of you, your families, and our global community is our highest priority.

As a result, over the past week, we have taken a number of measures, as guided by the Center for Disease Control, New York State Education Department and other government authorities, to help control the spread of the virus.

Here is what we can share to date

End of our Winter Session:

While MIM is closed for the next 2 weeks, we have organized for our students to take their final exams on-line, and we will be able to end our Winter Session one week early (March 20).

Start of our Spring Session:

We have postponed the start of our Spring Session from April 13 to April 27 and are ready to have all our courses on-line if and when need be until in-person classes are deemed to be safe.

In the meantime, students will be able to begin/continue their program with remote instruction, for as long as it is recommended for the safety of our community.

Under this new partnership, the Program, headed by Dr. Thomas F. UNIVERSITY OF CALABRIA ITALIAN STUDENTS AT MIM ATTEND PRESENTATION BY MR. STEFANO PASQUALI

On November 8, 2019, a group of finance graduate students from the University of Calabria, Italy, accompanied by Dr. Gianpiero Barbuto, the University’s Manager of International Relations, ended their 2-week Corporate Finance Seminar at the Manhattan Institute of Management with a presentation by Mr. Stefano Pasquali, Managing Director, Head of Liquidity Research Group at BlackRock Solutions.

BlackRock is a global investment management corporation based in New York City where Mr. Pasquali is responsible for market liquidity modelling, as well as estimating portfolio liquidity risk profiles. He explained to the students how his responsibilities cover defining cross asset class models, leveraging available trade data and developing innovative machine learning based approaches to better estimate market liquidity.

Our group was thrilled by this presentation and enthused to meet such distinguished fellow countryman: prior to moving to New York in 2010, Mr. Pasquali held senior positions at several European banks and asset management firms, and is a graduate of Parma University holding a master’s degree in Theoretical Physics, as well as research fellowships in Computational Physics at Parma University and Reading University (UK).

MIM Hosts Annual Halloween Party

(New York City, NY October 31, 2019) – On October 31, 2019, the Manhattan Institute of Management (MIM) held its annual Halloween Party.

More than 40 students participated in the event with colorful costumes, face paint, masks, and devil horns. Most importantly, the event allowed MIM’s student body to enjoy a culturally significant event in the middle of New York City with other students from all over the world. The students were treated to pizza lunch, which was especially appreciated by MIM’s Italian students. The students enjoyed the respite from their usually intense workload, with many of them having midterm exams within the next week or two.

While Finland is known for its cold weather, Mr. Nelson made sure to“heat up” the business activity for MIM and scheduled over 90 meetings overfour days of the two conferences. The ICEF Conference first featured 180 agentsfrom all over the world while the EAIE Conference brought over 4,000 representatives from universities; mostly from Europe.

Mr. Nelson informed both the prospective agents and partners of recentexciting developments at MIM, including its new location at 2 WashingtonStreet, 17thFloor. As Mr.Nelson stated, “These are great times to be associated with MIM. Our J-1 visaprograms are now rolling along smoothly, we have a new location within a shortdistance of the Statue of Liberty, and we just had an impressive Fall 2019intake. MIM Moves to New Facilities

The Manhattan Institute of Management has moved from its 110 William Street location where it had its offices and classrooms for the past 8 years to a new building, also in the downtown Manhattan Financial District at 2 Washington Street.

The building stands next to Battery Park, a 25-acre public park located at the southern tip of Manhattan Island facing New York Harbor. It is bounded by Battery Place on the north, State Street on the east, New York Harbor to the south, and the Hudson River to the west.

MIM is delighted to share the 17th Floor with Nyack College, which occupies the building.

Our students will be able to follow their courses in nice and comfortable surroundings, enjoy the views from our lounge and computer spaces while still being able to take advantage of all Manhattan has to offer.

(New York City, NY August 15, 2019 – In the Summer of 2019, the Manhattan Institute of Management (MIM) reached an Affiliation Agreement with AXA Advisors. The agreement allows AXA to accept MIM students as interns.

AXA Advisors accepted its first two MIM interns, Mohammed Mallouk and Alexandre Dos Santos Macias on July 8, 2019. These interns are thrilled with their experience so far. They help their Supervisor, Carissa Hatley, with preparation for client meetings and recruitment of financial advisors. They describe their time at AXA as an incredible opportunity, which will strengthen their resume when they return back to France to pursue their careers.

Both students appreciate AXA’s location at 1290 Avenue of the Americas, across the street from Radio City Music Hall. They also made note of the fact that AXA Financial is headquartered in Paris, which can help them if they choose to work at AXA again once they finish their master’s degree at IAE Ecole Universitaire de Management in Nice, France.

AXA Financial Consultant, Carissa Hatley is very pleased with the MIM partnership so far. As she stated, “This was my first time working with MIM, but Alexandre and Mohamed have really shown a great effort at their internships. I hope to receive many more interns from MIM going forward.”

Strong Cultural Diversity at MIM’s Partner Companies

The Manhattan Institute of Management (MIM) is proud of its diverse student body, which has included individuals from over 20 different nationalities in the past two years. Situated in the heart of New York City, a global hub known as "the melting pot of the world," MIM benefits from its location in a vibrant, multicultural environment. Additionally, MIM’s partner companies also reflect this diversity, as highlighted by Marc Nelson, MIM’s Marketing Director, during recent visits to KimCP and the Brazilian-American Chamber of Commerce.

On Tuesday, June 18th, Mr. Nelson first set out to meet with the internship companies of MIM students, Taiki Kudo and Yu Mo, respectively a Japanese and Chinese student at MIM. At KIMCP, located on Madison Avenue, Mr. Nelson quickly became aware that this is a company that caters to all Asian markets, providing services ranging from web development, website design, and social media. However, their overarching goal is to open a Japanese restaurant called Tojos Kitchen, which Taiki Kudo has been especially involved with. In fact, Taiki regularly attends Smorgasbord events in Brooklyn to get patrons accustomed to the tastes of the food of their future restaurant. Yu Mo is heavily involved with the promotion of the events from a social media aspect, using Instagram to get future customers’ “mouths watering” over their delicious offerings.

From there, Mr. Nelson headed a few blocks away on Madison Avenue to the Brazilian-American Chamber of Commerce, where MIM Brazilian student, Lucca Suasunna de Carvalho is doing his internship. As Executive Director, Ted Helms explained, the mission of their organization is to promote trade, investment, and cultural ties between Brazil and the United States. To do this, they host 40 events per year, including their annual gala, which features 1,000 attendees.

Mr. Helms described Lucca as an integral part of their promotion efforts for these events. In fact, Lucca helps to crate content, does some logistics work, and then does data analytics work after the events to gauge their success.

Mr. Nelson made note of the fact that, in these positions, our MIM students can indeed put in practice what they have learnt during their MIM curriculum, benefit from real-life applications and be of worthwhile help to their host organizations. And, as he stated, “It is also worth noting that just a few blocks away on Madison Avenue can be an Asian-based organization and a Brazilian-based one, each hosting our students. The ethnic diversity of our student population is also reflected by their internship companies. New York City is a city of great opportunity and our students are making the most of it.”

Mr Kremer visits a top french engineering school, ENSIIE

During this two weeks in France, MIM’s Managing Director, Jacques Kremer, had the opportunity to visit ENSIIE, a French engineering school based in the Paris area, and meet with its Director Laurent Prével, and Pierre Dossantos Uzarralde, Director of International Relations. The school is specialized in computer science and mathematics, but also puts an emphasis on entrepreneurship and innovation. That is why Mr Kremer also explored the “C-19”, an incubator under the responsibility of Ménad Sidahmed (on the right of the top image), where students can work in teams with different school advisors and create their own start-up together, throughout their curriculum at ENSIIE.

MIM and ENSIIE have been partners for a year now, and would like to take it further in the future, providing ENSIIE students with outstanding learning and working opportunities in New York City.
